Pneumatics vs Hydraulics

The core principles of pneumatics mirror those of hydraulics, with one main difference: pneumatics transmits power using a gas instead of a liquid. Typically, compressed air is used, though nitrogen or other inert gases may be chosen for specific applications. In a pneumatic system, a compressor pumps air into a storage receiver, which holds a large volume of compressed air ready for use as needed.

Since atmospheric air contains dust, water vapor, and other impurities, filters and air dryers are commonly used to keep the air clean and dry, enhancing the reliability and lifespan of both components and the overall system. Pneumatic systems also incorporate various valves to control actuator direction, pressure, and speed.
